What this is
Is Kicking Horse Pass Open? is a free, single-purpose website that answers one question: is Highway 1 through Kicking Horse Pass — between Golden, BC and the BC/Alberta border, running through the Kicking Horse Canyon and Yoho National Park — currently open, closed, delayed, or under avalanche control. No accounts, no clutter.
This corridor is deliberately kept distinct from Rogers Pass (Revelstoke–Golden), which our sister site istherogerspassopen.ca covers.
Where the data comes from
Status comes from DriveBC's public Open511 API, refreshed every 5 minutes. We filter events to a bounding box covering Highway 1 from Golden to the BC/Alberta border and classify each one as open, delayed, avalanche control, or closed. Driver reports on the homepage are secondary; the official DriveBC status is always the source of truth.
